Duncan Montgomery - Attorney/Producer
Mr. Montgomery received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas and a Law Degree from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Montgomery’s early professional experience varied widely, ranging from campaign manager for a former state senator’s bid for U.S. Congress to working on the creation of an Internet start up company.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Montgomery accepted a federal clerkship with the Honorable Paul Stickney in the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division. Upon completion of his clerkship, Mr. Montgomery moved to Austin, Texas and began practicing law with a boutique entertainment law firm where he worked primarily with independent filmmakers, producers, and writers.
In the summer of 2003, Mr. Montgomery started his own firm, Montgomery Law, where he provides a variety of services including the creation of financing entities, drafting and negotiating production agreements, and negotiating distribution contracts. Mr. Montgomery has offices in Dallas and Austin and travels regularly to Los Angeles to represent the interests of his clients. Mr. Montgomery maintains a relationship with a broad network of agents, producers, writers, directors, distributors, and content buyers.
In addition to his role as an entertainment attorney, Mr. Montgomery produced his first feature length film in 2005 entitled Drop Dead Sexy. The picture, starring Jason Lee, Crispin Glover, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Lin Shaye, Xander Berkeley, and Brad Dourif, premiered domestically at the South by Southwest film festival and internationally at the Cannes Film Market. Mr. Montgomery recently completed production on a TV/Internet series for Lifetime Entertainment Services entitled "Inspector Mom". In 2006, Mr. Montgomery became a principle in a domestic distribution company, Fireside Releasing, which has contractual relationships with DVD retail stores, digital cable service companies, and online distribution companies such as Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, In Demand, Baker and Taylor, Navarre, and Movielink.
Mr. Montgomery is a member of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the Texas Bar, the Austin Film Society, Reel Women, and The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He has lectured at the Austin Film Festival and the University of Texas School of Law and consults with film organizations, unions, and film commissions in both Texas and Louisiana.
